Côte d’Ivoire-AIP/Jérémie N’gouan and Aka Aouélé offer several weeks of free breast cancer screening to women in Aboisso – AIP

Aboisso, October 20, 2024 (AIP) – Mayor Jérémie Alfred N’gouan, and the president of the Economic, Social, Environmental and Cultural Council (CESEC), Dr Eugène Aka Aouélé, announced the holding of a campaign lasting several weeks of free breast cancer screening for the benefit of women in Aboisso, Ayamé and Maféré, during the launch of the “Pink October” campaign initiated by the Rotary Club Abidjan Seliame at Place Alexis Etché Elleingand, Saturday October 19, 2024.

This initiative aims to raise awareness and early detection of the disease in order to reduce the number of deaths linked to breast cancer in the department.

Both personalities emphasized the importance of early detection in the fight against breast cancer. Medical teams will be deployed over several weeks in Aboisso, Ayamé and Maféré. The mayor also promised medical follow-up for women whose screening results were positive, stressing that the seriousness of this disease requires rapid detection in order to reduce the number of deaths.

Dr Aka Aouélé welcomed this initiative, emphasizing the crucial importance of awareness in the prevention and treatment of breast cancer.

The president of the Rotary Club Abidjan Seliame, Mariam Koné, explained, for her part, that this initiative is part of Rotary’s ongoing efforts to improve mother-child health, specifying that the fight against breast cancer is beginning through awareness.

The launch ceremony was preceded by a walking and fitness session.

In Côte d’Ivoire, breast cancer represents 19% of all cancers and more than a third of female cancers, with more than 3,300 new cases and nearly 1,800 deaths per year. These alarming figures justify the urgency of increased mobilization for screening and awareness through actions such as those of “Pink October”.
