Diabetes: raising awareness of little-known risks

The three Lions clubs of , Agnès-Sorel, Bourges Cœur de and Doyen, offered the Berruyers free diabetes screening on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

In the shopping arcade of the Carrefour hypermarket, there was a large crowd. After having their blood sugar levels measured using a pricking pen, people answered a questionnaire determining the risk of having unknown diabetes, based on their age, weight and height. “If it turns out that the risk is real, people are referred to the two doctors present,” explains Michel Gouttebessis, member of the Bourges Cœur de France club. At 11 a.m., Doctor Aminata Tembely had received five people out of the thirty who had taken the blood sugar test. “If their risk of having diabetes is very high, we give them a letter to give to their attending physician,” underlines Aminata Tembely.

As of 5 p.m., 350 tests had been carried out. “Among the 350 people tested, one case that was unaware of it turned out to be very severe,” specifies Michel Gouttebessis. He was advised to consult a specialist very quickly. » About ten people were above the threshold and ignored him.
