Already 256 indigenous cases recorded since the start of the epidemic in : 54 more cases in one week according to the ARS. Chikungunya continues to gain ground on the island. Faced with this spread of the virus, protective measures are essential. With the Chikungunya epidemic, mosquito repellents feature prominently on supermarket shelves. The price of certain items is controlled by the state. The Department of Employment and Labor and the Prefecture then go to meet businesses to carry out an inspection.

Targeted items, those with the “price-quality shield” label: “This is a check that we do all year round to check the effectiveness of the quality-price shield. We look at the availability of products and the prices displayed. In our check we have the list of 153 products” explains Martine Le Cam, Consumer Competition and Fraud Control Inspector – DEETS.

The price of repellents is not decided at random, a work between the store and the Prefecture where the distributor takes place “The products which are concerned by the BQP, it is a work which is done with the Prefecture and the suppliers because these are the prices which are regulated. Here we are in a very particular legislative framework. For the rest, the prices are fixed with the suppliers but it is the game of competition” declares Frédéric Blangille, Director of RunMarket.

For the Prefecture, these controls make it possible to protect consumers with the help of the various actors “This weekly control system with a weekly report which will be made to Mr. the Prefect will allow us to check the availability of products and the evolution of prices “ adds Nathalie Infante, Secretary General for Regional Affairs – Réunion Prefecture.

If the criteria are not met, the boutique or store may be accused of deceptive commercial practice and may face sanctions from state services.
