Measles. In Tangier, families flock to health centers to vaccinate their children

The health authorities of Tangier are increasing their efforts to mobilize children and adults in vaccination centers, in response to the increase in measles cases in several neighborhoods and within the city’s schools. These efforts are accompanied by awareness campaigns in schools and associations.

The Ben Dibane health center in Tangier is one of the establishments which has mobilized its nursing, medical and administrative staff since last September to fight against the spread of measles. This center welcomes daily a large number of mothers accompanying their children to receive free doses of vaccines, thus strengthening their immunity against measles.

Aware of the major importance of vaccination, the medical and nursing staff of the Ben Dibane center are also focusing on raising awareness. Doctor Chakib Hamid, senior doctor at the center, said in a statement for Le360 that the team informs the inhabitants of the region about the importance of completing vaccinations against measles.

Tangier has recently recorded an increase in measles cases, particularly in schools. According to preliminary data, around 74 students have been infected, and the majority have recovered quickly since last October and returned to classes. However, four students still remain under medical supervision. Additionally, more than 20 cases of measles have been reported at Tangier prison, including members of prison staff.

Faced with this situation, the health authorities of Tangier have taken important measures in hospitals and health centers to strengthen the case management system, in anticipation of serious complications due to the virus.
