Fribourg-Gottéron takes on the Zähringen derby

Seventh in the standings, the Dragons celebrated their fourth success in a row on Saturday. Lars Leuenberger’s men won in extra time thanks to a goal from Lucas Wallmark, served by a brilliant pass from Marcus Sörensen. The latter, thanks to his hard work behind the Bernese cage, was able to create the decisive opening. Friborg opened the scoring in the 8th minute, thanks to Christophe Bertschy, before conceding the equalizer in the 52nd.

“We leave with a victory, that’s the most important thing,” analyzed Nathan Marchon lucidly after the match. The Dragons striker, however, did not hide the fact that Berne had put the Friborg side in difficulty. “The plan was not to make a good play, but simply to put the puck behind the Bernese,” added defender Yannick Rathgeb. Mission accomplished for the Dragons, who are now only four lengths from sixth place, occupied by Kloten.

An (almost) perfect week

After their victory against Geneva last Saturday (2-1), the Dragons continued by dominating the Lausanne leader (4-1), before winning against the red lantern, Ajoie (2-1), and in the derby of the Zähringen. “Eight points out of nine possible, that’s not bad for a team that played 12 matches in 23 days,” Nathan Marchon said with satisfaction.

The Friborgs will benefit from two days off before resuming training. Their next match is scheduled for Friday, with the reception of Langnau at the BCF Arena. This delay will allow them to work on certain aspects of their game. “I think we can do even better on the numerical superiority,” concludes Yannick Rathgeb.
