Opponents of the World Economic Forum (WEF) gathered in Bern on Saturday for an unauthorized demonstration. From Küblis (GR), around 350 people left to join Davos (GR) in a hike against the WEF.
In Bern, several hundred people responded to the call of two local far-left groups, placed under the slogan “Smash WEF – End the game of the powerful, a good life for all”.
Protesters gathered in the afternoon at the station square and began a march through the city center. The police tolerated them.
The WEF in Davos is a symbol of capitalism and the climate crisis, wars, economic crises, discrimination and oppression, according to the call for the demonstration. WEF participants discuss crises of their own making, the appeal charges.
Anti-WEF hike
At Küblis station in Graubünden, demonstrators also gathered on Saturday morning to travel to Davos, 25 kilometers away, to the World Economic Forum (WEF) in two days. Despite subzero temperatures, the atmosphere was relaxed and more reminiscent of a hiking camp than a radical left demonstration.
-“We criticize the elite who claim the right to speak on behalf of people, when millions of people are already dying because of climate change,” said a spokesperson for the Strike-WEF collective.
The WEF starts on Monday in Davos (GR). More than 3,000 people, including high-level politicians, business leaders and representatives of social organizations as well as the media, will discuss global challenges over five days.
