After facing breast cancer, Yaël Braun-Pivet calls on women to get screened

Fourth person in the State, Yaël Braun-Pivet revealed on Friday January 10, 2025 that she was diagnosed with breast cancer three years ago. The President of the National Assembly made this announcement in an interview with journalist Maïtena Biraben for her online media Ladies.

“No one is prepared to have cancer”

“Like more than 60,000 women each year, I was diagnosed with breast cancer just three years ago” confirms Yaël Braun-Pivet on his X account.

“As for them, it was a bolt from the blue in my life. No one is prepared for cancer. Like them, I lived with the uncertainty of the diagnosis, the anxiety of the operation, the wait for the analysis results, the daily life of the treatments” she testifies.

“Don’t wait any longer”

Indicating that she is doing well, is under hormonal therapy and is still being monitored, she also confesses to having too much “left the envelopes from the national screening campaign or my doctor’s prescription lying around on the living room table”. This is after taking a “good resolution” in 2022 that she decided to get screened and it was on this occasion that her cancer was detected.

“So, if you need to make a good resolution at the start of the year, I can only recommend that you go get tested. Breast cancer, colon cancer, cervical cancer…: don’t wait any longer! » she said finally.

The National Cancer Institute (INCa) estimates that 80% of breast cancers occur after the age of 50. It is from this age that it is recommended to carry out regular screening, every two years. This is 100% covered by health insurance.

A letter received for screening

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in and represents the leading cause of cancer death in women, recalls Public Health France. In addition to age, alcohol consumption and smoking are additional risk factors.

From the age of 50, all women must receive at home a letter sent by their Primary Health Insurance Fund (Cnam) indicating the procedure to follow and a list of approved radiologists to make an appointment. If you do not receive this letter, you should contact the Cnam.
