Going out with Baby when it’s cold is quite an adventure. After putting on our warm clothes, it’s his turn. Next, you need to equip the stroller to ensure that it stays warm. And for this, some parents and some people who take care of young children tend to cover it with a blanket. Except that, if we already knew that we should not do it in summer to protect it from the sun, it turns out that it is also a gesture to be avoided in winter.

Why you shouldn’t cover the stroller with a blanket when it’s cold
Kirsty Carroll is an expert for the childcare website Kiddie Kingdom. In a press release cited by the British media, the specialist explains that you should never cover your child’s stroller with a blanket during winter walks. By doing this, we think we are protecting the little one from particularly cold temperatures. But this will limit the circulation of air, so that the air trapped under the fabric can become particularly hot, even if it is cold. The child may therefore be too hot, which is not without risk for his health. Ultimately, the problem is the same as in summer, even if the temperatures are not at all the same.
Furthermore, Kirsty Carroll also advises against wrapping the child in a blanket. If we do so, she recommends not “pull her up only to her chest, leaving her face exposed”in order to avoid the risk of suffocation if he were to turn his head and his nose and mouth ended up against the textile. She explains that it is better to have a chancellor, a “excellent alternative” : “They are designed to fit your pram or stroller and sometimes have a harness for added safety.”
To ensure that the child does not get cold, Kirsty Carroll explains that you should not hesitate to layer layers of clothing “because it retains heat to keep your little one warm.” According to her, “a good rule of thumb is to put your baby in an extra layer of clothing than what you are wearing”. For this to be very effective, she recommends starting with a well-fitting first garment, then adding “an insulating middle layer and a weather-resistant outer layer”. And it is essential not to forget to put a hat on the baby’s head, because this is where they lose the most body heat. Finally, if it rains or snows, don’t forget to put the rain cover on the stroller, so that the child stays dry.
