The Victor-Jousselin hospital center in Dreux is no exception: it is going through difficult times due to the peak of the flu epidemic which is not sparing any region of France.
Patients pouring in, beds occupied, emergency rooms overloaded and staff who may themselves be victims of the virus… This is the landscape described by Hugo Montamat, director of the Dreux hospital, returning from the emergency room this Tuesday, January 7, 2025 in the afternoon.
How is the hospital coping? The answer lies in an anglicism: The Bed manager which translates into a very administrative, but apparently very effective, bed management unit.
Continuous bed management
Behind the words hide a manager and paramedical agents who spend their day counting the number of available beds. They are in permanent contact with hospital management and medical teams. Hour-by-hour management which allows services to welcome patients as soon as beds become available and to make staff available to care for them.
However, the director also appeals to the sense of responsibility of the inhabitants of the Drouais basin: “The waits in the emergency room are long. We really must avoid coming there when we can get treatment otherwise.” However, emergency services have not taken any restrictive measures at this time.
