With reunions for the end-of-year holidays and the return to work and school, the flu epidemic will affect even more people. This year the disease is strong. It is recommended to be vaccinated for vulnerable people.

“It’s about one in three patients,” notes Doctor Sébastien Meurisse, doctor at the Ain Immediate Care Medical Center. The flu epidemic intensified with gatherings for the end-of-year holidays. With the resumption of social activities and the return to class, the peak is likely to be even stronger.

This year, she’s strong. It’s not a little flu.

The patients are adults and the elderly. Usually in children, symptoms are short-lived. One of the explanations is the drop in the use of vaccination this year. This is what Myriam Silliau, pharmacist, observes. “I think that this year, there was a relaxation of vaccination, we got tired of vaccinating, there was COVID for many years, we had to vaccinate, vaccinate, vaccinate and people got tired of it. a little fed up so they let go and so it proliferated“.

Patients experience a feeling of malaise, fatigue and chills. Then appear cough, very marked aches, headaches and fever. Quite frequently, the person with the flu feels better after 3 or 4 days, but this lull lasts at best 24 hours and the symptoms return for a few days. This is called the “flu V.” The flu heals within 8 to 10 days.

This vaccination is covered free of charge until January 31 for people who have a Health Insurance voucher and bAME beneficiaries.

Others can also get vaccinated. For adults who are not a priority for vaccination, there is no need for a prescription to be vaccinated in a pharmacy. The price of the vaccine is between 6 and 10 euros. The injection is covered at 70%, as for any medical procedure. If a doctor does the injection, the price is included in the consultation price. If it is carried out by a pharmacist or nurse, the price is 6.30 euros (in mainland France) with a remaining charge of 1.89 euros (moderation).

For 15 days. We must then protect ourselves, limit interactions and adopt barrier gestures. At a minimum, wear a mask and wash your hands regularly, actions to which covid has accustomed us.

In the meantime, hospitals are also making progress in the crisis. For example, a specific temporary unit has opened for fragile patients in Bourg-en-Bresse.
