The last week of 2024 marked the third week of the flu epidemic in Paca. “For flu and flu-like illnesses, activity is up sharply in hospital emergencies and at SOS Médecins“, specifies the latest bulletin from Public Health , published on Thursday January 2 for the Paca region. A situation similar to that of the whole of France since all metropolitan regions are in the epidemic phase.

Over the last week of the year, 1,811 visits to the emergency room for flu or influenza-like illness were recorded in Paca, compared to 746 the previous week, an increase of 142%.

Flu indicators are increasing in all age groups in town and in hospital“, points out the bulletin from Public Health France. And it is the youngest who are the most affected. In fact, the proportion of visits to the emergency room for flu or influenza-like illness is higher among those under 15 years old (8. 8%). But the hospitalization rate still remains higher among people aged over 75 (60.4%).

Emergency areas in Bouches-du-Rhône particularly affected

Good news however, the proportion of hospitalizations after a visit to the emergency room is down in this last week of 2024.

In detail, in emergencies, the level of activity linked to influenza remains lower than that of the epidemic peak last year in Hautes-Alpes and . In the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, the epidemic peak is similar to that of the previous season. Conversely, in Bouches-du-Rhône, the epidemic peak is higher than last year and reaches the level of that of the 2022-2023 season.

As for bronchiolitis, the week of December 23 to 29, 2024 marked the sixth week of the epidemic in Paca. But the situation is improving since activity relating to bronchiolitis in children under 2 years old is decreasing in SOS doctors associations and in emergency departments.
