Nearly 1,500 women and children benefited, Tuesday in the rural commune of Ait Saghrouchen, province of Taza, from the services of a medical caravan on maternal and child health, organized at the initiative of the Provincial Committee for Human Development ( CPDH).
Organized by the province of Taza, in partnership with the National Initiative for Human Development (INDH) and the delegation of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection in Taza, this caravan aimed to promote access to health maternal and child health, and to allow pregnant women, women under 45, young girls aged 15, children aged 0 to 5 as well as newborns to benefit from specialized medical services and examinations , reports MAP.
The services offered by this caravan included medical examinations and consultations for 183 people in general medicine, 99 in pediatrics, 87 in gynecology and obstetrics, 30 ultrasounds and 55 beneficiaries of breast cancer screening, of which two cases were referred to the specialized center of Taza.
In addition, 27 cervical cancer screenings were carried out and four cases were referred to the Taza Reproductive Health Center, as well as 252 laboratory tests, 150 AIDS screenings, 16 syphilis screenings, 52 blood pressure tests and 34 diabetes screenings.
Furthermore, 506 women were made aware of the importance of promoting a healthy and balanced diet during pregnancy, of encouraging breastfeeding, particularly during the first six months of the child’s life, of diversifying the feeding children and continuing breastfeeding until the age of two.
A parallel activity was also organized to vaccinate students from Dar Talib and Dar Taliba of Ait Saghrouchen, as part of the annual plan to combat meningitis. Medicines worth 30,000 dirhams were also distributed.
In a statement to MAP, the head of the Social Action Division (DAS) in Taza province, Azzedine Loukili, indicated that this caravan is part of a medical program organized as part of the third phase of the program. 4 of the INDH, relating to the promotion of the human capital of rising generations, and which aims to improve the access of women and children to a range of specialties.
This medical caravan also included awareness-raising activities for women and children in the commune of Ait Saghrouchen in the circle of Tahla, which focused on family planning, reproductive health, post-natal follow-up and the importance medical examinations for women during pregnancy and after childbirth, he said.
For his part, the communications officer at the provincial delegation of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection in Taza, Mohamed Arich, indicated that this operation mobilized a medical team made up of five general practitioners, a doctor specializing in obstetrics and gynecology, a community health doctor, 10 nurses, as well as 10 administrators, assistants and technicians.
The care provided includes a series of tests and screenings, as well as awareness sessions and review of children’s medical records to catch up on vaccinations against measles and meningitis, he noted.
This medical caravan, carried out in coordination with local authorities, the commune of Ait Saghrouchen and the Association of the National Initiative for the Development and Promotion of Rural Women, is part of the implementation of the program 4 of the INDH, in particular the axis relating to maternal and child health.
