Did you know that in North America, during the holiday season, there is a 10% increase in heart attacks, deaths linked to heart attacks and strokes?
So, what exactly is responsible for the rise in heart attacks and strokes? How can we prevent them? Are some people more at risk?
Listen to Dr. Gilles Goulet – from icardio.ca – commenting on the situation on Élisabeth Crête's microphone.
“There is the stress factor, that’s for sure. But there are also other things because we overeat a lot. We eat too much, we drink too much, we don't rest much, we don't take much time for ourselves, we neglect cardiovascular sports activities. Even simple walking, we abandon it because we no longer have time,” says the doctor.
“And then, we also have a lot of traveling to do. There are families that are completely divided: the 24th with one's parents and the 25th with the other's parents. With a lot of road, congestion
repairs, detours, orange cones, storms… So, all of this adds up to the stress factor which is significant during this holiday season.
Prevention advice
