Mobilization against breast cancer

Third year Segpa students from Montesquieu college carried out an action to raise awareness about breast cancer.

Under the leadership of their teacher, Laurence Degore, and thanks to a solidarity sale of cupcakes, the students collected 157 euros which they donated to the Reconstruction sein infos association. This generous act deeply touched Sylvie Bouet, national secretary of the association, who came to meet them to thank them.

Beyond the financial gesture, this initiative raised valuable awareness. “It was by noting a lack of information on this subject in families that I decided to carry out this project,” explains Laurence Degore. Comments confirmed by Sylvie Bouet: “People need to know that there are associations to support patients and their loved ones. »

The latter candidly shared her own battle with cancer, explaining the medical advances and reconstruction techniques available. A reassuring message: detected in time, breast cancer offers a 90% chance of cure.

This testimony had an impact on Kiara, a third-year student: “I had heard about it, but I didn’t feel concerned. The word “cut” particularly struck me. » However, she was reassured by the story of resilience of Sylvie Bouet, who overcame two cancers.

This awareness must go beyond the students: “Transmit the information to your loved ones, even to men, because they too can be affected by breast cancer,” concluded Sylvie Bouet, to applause.

Building on this success, the educational team plans to repeat the experience next year to further expand the audience. A beautiful lesson in solidarity and hope carried by young students.
