« The South-West will therefore no longer depend on ducklings born in Pays de la Loire since the Orvia group now has three hatcheries in the South-West, with a production potential of 6 million Mulards per year, which will be fully exploited. », Underlines the Orvia group, in a press release.
In July 2024, the Haute Chalosse hatchery (Landes) joined the Mulard division of the Orvia group in July 2024, which claims a 52% market share with a total of five Mulard hatcheries: two in the West (Couvoir de la Mésangère, Couvoir Sèvre Maine) and three in the South-West: couvir Céran (Gers), north (Haute-Chalosse) and south of Landes (Ducournau).
There are also two Muscovy duck hatcheries (La Seigneurtière hatchery, France Canard) as well as a Beijing hatchery (Seigneurtière).
« Each duck production region is now stocked with ducklings born in the same region. »
“35% of breeding and laying buildings in Orvia are now in low risk areas for avian influenza”
As a reminder, this volume security plan also included:
- The systematic safeguarding since 2016 of pure lines selected in a “conservatory in Spain”
- The densification of the diffusion risk zone (ZRD) of Pays de la Loire with the shutdown of 50 breeding buildings to protect nearby hatcheries
- The start of production of 60 buildings in areas with low risk of avian influenza.
- Filtration and disinfection of air in selected buildings located in areas at risk of diffusion
