Tunisia – Health alert: the ministry reveals the risks of ultra-processed foods

In an official statement, the Ministry of Health launched an alert regarding the dangers of ultra-processed foods, calling on citizens to adopt a healthier and more conscious diet.

These products, omnipresent on our plates, are defined as foods that have undergone intensive industrial processing, to which artificial ingredients such as colorings, flavorings, preservatives and sweeteners are added.

The ministry warns against familiar examples: pizzas and burgers from fast food restaurants, soft drinks, industrial juices, packaged confectionery, biscuits or even processed meats such as salami or merguez.

These foods, although attractive for their convenience and taste, are directly linked to many health problems.

The ministry emphasizes that regular consumption increases the risk of obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and even certain cancers.

The reason: their richness in saturated fats, sugars and salt, which disrupt the body, and their lack of essential nutrients such as vitamins, minerals and fiber.

These nutritional deficits can weaken the immune system and harm digestive health, making the body more vulnerable to disease.

The ministry also invites citizens to favor natural foods such as fruits, vegetables and fresh products. He also recommends preparing meals at home to better control the quality of ingredients.

Finally, he encourages everyone to read food product labels carefully, in order to avoid those that contain artificial additives.

“Your health begins with your food choices,” insists the ministry in its press release, recalling that every decision counts to build a healthier society.

The alert is being sounded: it is time to review our habits to protect our well-being and that of our families.
