The number of positive laboratory tests for respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) has decreased compared to last week, but remains above the epidemic threshold, according to the weekly bulletin from the national public health institute Sciensano published on Wednesday.
Nationally, the number of areas where RSV has been detected is high. According to the latest measured results, the virus has been detected in 17 out of 30 areas.
Regarding SARS-CoV-2, the positivity rate for Belgium was 4.6% for the period from December 8 to December 14. In comparison, for the previous seven-day period, this was 5.7%. The presence of this virus in wastewater was very low.
In addition, the proportion of people who received a last dose of vaccine in the last six months was 39.8% for people aged 65 to 84 and 46.9% for people aged 85 and over. .
Finally, according to the bulletin, the incidence of consultations with general practitioners for influenza-like illness has exceeded the epidemic threshold. If this increase is confirmed next week, it will mark the start of the flu season.
