It is an innovation which could give hope to thousands of patients. Called BIOFACE, this project aims to “improve the quality of life of patients suffering from oral cancer thanks to a surgical process for reconstructing facial bones which is based on an innovative biomaterial”, we can read in the press release of CHU de (Haute-Garonne).

A project selected by the National Research Agency

It all started in 2022, when Agnès Dupret-Bories, hospital practitioner at Toulouse University Hospital and specialist in microsurgical reconstruction and his team manage, for the first time, to rebuild the noses of two people suffering from cancer from a synthetic graft. Following this medical feat, the National Research Agency selected the Toulouse university hospital center to develop the BIOFACE projectalways worn by Agnès Dupret-Bories. The team also obtained financing of 2030.

Launched on December 16, this innovation “has the ambition of radically changing a method of caring for patients operated on for oral cancer,” she said.
