Free surgery campaign for testicles affected by hydrocele in 4 health zones of Maniema

The free surgery campaign for testicles affected by hydrocele was launched on Monday, December 16 in Kindu (Maniema). Hydrocele is a pathology that attacks the male genital tract, particularly the testicles. This campaign targets four health zones including Alunguli, Kailo, Kalima and Kasongo.

According to the medical coordinator of the program to combat neglected tropical diseases, Doctor Louis Lutete, this surgical campaign targets 150 patients.
According to Dr Louis Lutete, this program firstly strengthened the skills of teams of local surgeons through training on a new surgical technique for hydrocele cases:
« The learners had skills because they learned, they operated, and we know that there are local experts who can ensure this activity at the provincial level. ».
This disease is characterized by swelling of one or both testicles causing a feeling of heaviness in the scrotum, a bit like a balloon filled with water. Affected people can be children or adults. Patients do not feel pain but a strong feeling of discomfort, medical sources report.

The coordinating doctor of the program to combat neglected tropical diseases asks those suffering from hydrocele to come to the Alunguli General Referral Hospital to register and consult free of charge in order to consider surgery which will also be free.
