Foie gras, champagne and log without guilt? Our dietitian Magalie Tatessian reveals her tips for controlling excesses during the holidays and enjoying them to the fullest.

The end of year celebrations often rhyme with gluttony and abundance. Between foie gras, champagne and log, it’s hard not to fall for it! Magalie Tatessiandietitian nutritionist in Aix-La Duranne, shares simple tips to enjoy the festivities while avoiding excesses.

Avoid fasting before festive meals

The classic mistake is to drastically reduce your diet before festive meals. This strategy is counterproductive, instead:

  • Favor balanced meals : don’t skip meals! Eat Starches, Vegetables, and Protein Before and After the Holidays
  • An enriched breakfast : opt for a morning meal rich in protein to keep you full and avoid cravings

A simple tip before the meal: soup before the aperitif

Soup is a great ally for not arriving at the table hungry. Prefer a homemade or organic version, minimally processed, made from vegetables.

  • Hydration and satiety : the soup hydrates, satiates thanks to fiber, and prepares the body to better manage excess salt and alcohol
  • Mastered aperitif : you will be able to peck without devouring and savor your glass of champagne without excess

Rest assured, occasional excesses are not catastrophic

Our dietician, Magalie, plays down the excesses of festive meals: immediate weight gain is often linked to water retention, not fat. With a few days of returning to a balanced diet, everything will be back to normal.
