At least 6,590 people living with HIV/AIDS (PLV) have been on antiretroviral drugs since last January in the Kasai-Central province.
The provincial coordinator of the National Multisectoral Program to Combat AIDS (PNMLS) in Kasai-Central, Jean-Caret Manshimba, delivered these figures on Monday, December 2, on the sidelines of the international day to combat this pandemic.
« The number of patients enrolled in the HIV care service on ARV is 6,590, including 6,346 adults and 244 children. But on this line, the province expects around 14,000 PVV to be covered so we are below half “, he stressed.
Jean-Caret Manshimba, however, noted little intervention in terms of activities and stakeholders in the fight against HIV given the number of cases currently recorded.
He regretted that the means do not follow to eliminate this disease by 2030 despite the strategies being put in place.
To do this, the provincial coordinator of the PNMLS proposed the creation of a local fund to support the fight against HIV at the country level.
Jean-Caret Manshimba alluded in particular to untimely ruptures in testing, inputs for the management of sexually transmitted infections.
In April 2023, he pleaded for access to quality care for PLWH.
