Australian researchers are developing new technology to combat drink-driving.

A whole new technology will see the light of day. The latter works thanks to a scanner and a so-called smart camera. The goal: just against drunk driving and its consequences. Researchers are quite confident about this project.

Many tests carried out

The alcohol driving is a scourge for road users. The results excessive consumption is big ones and can even go so far as to kill a personTo combat this trend, the authorities are trying to find des solutions to establish.
This is why Australian researchers from Edith Cowan University are currently developing a new technology “revolutionary”. The latter must in fact be able to scanner the different images from the surveillance cameras. A system “intelligent” able to detect drivers blind drunk.
And the least we can say is that Researchers are confident. And there is reason to be. Many tests have been carried out. In these, three groups were created according to a specific blood alcohol level in a simulator driving.
The technology was thus able to analyze the different facial features or even the direction of the regard and the position of the head. Thanks to this, technology can deduce the degree of alcohol content of the driver.

Privacy concerns?

According to the researchers, the results are encouraging. According to ECU PhD student Ensiyeh Keshtkaran, the accuracy rate is 75 % for all three groups. It is obviously far too early to lancer this technology on the market. Significant work still needs to be done. Because according to the researchers, “Algorithmic detections are not sufficient. This implies that the driver is already drunk on the road. This represents too great a risk.”
So what are the researchers’ goals? Firstly: to help the police. Indeed, with the various cameras, the police could take advantage of this to track down drunk drivers before it causes an accident. To reach this level, researchers must improve the quality of the resolution necessary images.
Finally, this technology may run into another problem: the law and especially around private life.

It remains to be seen how this technology will continue. to progress. There is no doubt that if a solution to combat drunk driving is possible, authorities will go in this direction.
