The Walloon Agency for Quality Life (Aviq) is currently working on a multi-year action plan intended to stimulate the prevention of HIV and STIs (sexually transmitted infections). It will be presented to the management committee of the regional agency in the first quarter of 2025, Walloon Minister of Health Yves Coppieters said on Tuesday.
He was questioned in a committee of the Walloon Parliament by deputies Mathilde Vandorpe (Les Engagés) and Sabine Roberty (PS), worried about the increase in HIV diagnoses over the last three years.
A meeting with approved operators working on the subject will soon be organized “in order to ensure coordination of efforts and territorial coverage of the entire population and the various sexually transmitted pathologies”, explained Minister Coppieters.
“To this end, we will put in place coordinated prevention of the three main pathologies (HIV/AIDS; sexually transmitted diseases including syphilis and gonorrhea as well as hepatitis B, C and E) as recommended by the WHO, he said. he added, also mentioning the problem of multi-resistance of STIs to antimicrobials.
“This is a major concern in the development of the work. Consultations are carried out between the federated entities, the national reference centers and the federal level to put in place strategies aimed at a global and adequate resolution of each problems”, finally assured the minister.
