On the occasion of World Diabetes Day, November 14, 2024, the ophthalmology and diabetology services of the Laval hospital center (Mayenne) are organizing an information and screening day, particularly on ocular complications.
“Complications still unknown”
“Diabetes can lead to eye complications such as diabetic retinopathy in a third of people with diabetes, or such as diabetic macular edema,” explains the hospital. “However, these complications are still unknown to people with diabetes and their silent development can lead, in the absence of treatment, to progressive loss of vision. »
In partnership with the AbbVie research and innovation laboratory, an information stand will be deployed in the hospital lobby from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Professionals will take turns throughout the day to carry out the examinations, particularly for patients with diabetes who have not consulted an ophthalmologist in the last 12 months. It is possible to make an appointment. The operation is free.
