Mathéo, a two and a half year old boy, received a double liver and kidney transplant. An exceptional medical procedure for such a young child. The operation was carried out at the Necker hospital in Paris on September 1. Since his birth, Mathéo has suffered from methylmalonic acidemia (MMA), a rare, potentially fatal disease, according to Ouest . By the time he was two months old, both of the child’s kidneys were no longer functioning. He then had to receive dialysis every day.

13 hours of operation

Over the months, his health deteriorated. In the space of 48 hours, Mathéo will undergo three operations. A double liver and kidney transplant is finally considered by the doctors. A prize pool of 30,000 euros is released by the parents so that they can move to Paris. A year later, they received a call from the hospital for the transplant. Mathéo will then be operated on for 13 hours. The operation is a success, but the child still has heavy treatment to take due to the instability of his new kidney.
