Securing the drug circuit: ARS Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes publishes two updated guides

Because hospitalizations, or even deaths, can be attributable to malfunctions in the drug circuit, while some of it would have been avoidable, the ARS Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes has included this issue of support for establishments and professionals. health in their approach to securing the medicine circuit in the 2018-2028 regional health project. With this objective, numerous actions have already been implemented in recent years and are being continued, such as the creation of educational tools, training and also through an inspection program.

These two practical guides are precisely tools intended to support and help establishments to initiate an essential reflection on the security of their medicine circuit. They will allow professionals to identify certain risks inherent to the process and prevent the occurrence of medication errors, which are by definition avoidable.

Initially written in 2012 and 2016 by doctors, pharmacists and inspectors from the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Regional Health Agency, these two guides have been updated, in particular to take into account regulatory developments.

Designed to be easy to use, they consist of a description of the different stages of the process of the drug circuit (from prescription to assistance in taking the treatment) and are supplemented by proposals for self-assessment grids. They also recall the regulatory requirements existing and formulate a certain number of practice recommendations.
