The number of cancers is increasing due to lack of screening, fear of the verdict, and denial. In any case, cancers of the prostate, breast, colon-rectum, uterus and lung are the most common cancers in France. The majority of them can be detected earlier and earlier and be the subject of treatments giving patients a better chance of curing them, with fewer after-effects. Concerned about this phenomenon, the Bergonié Institute, a cancer center in Bordeaux, travels across the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region with its Bergo’bus.

This operation, built with the Poitiers University Hospital, aims to create a territorial network, increase the screening rate by going where the unfavorable indicators are, in areas with few resources, to get closer to individuals furthest from care: on markets, fairs, businesses, in order to reach all age groups. On Thursday May 30, 2024, the Bergo’bus was present at the Gençay fair in the presence of a social worker, a physical education instructor, Agathe Dupuy, prevention nurse, Dr Corine Renelier, president of the CPTS (Territorial Professional Health Community), vice-president Alain Chartier (physiotherapist) and Adeline David, public health facilitator at Poitiers University Hospital. The CPTS was created a year ago and the project was validated by the ARS (Regional Health Agency) with the aim of promoting access to treating doctors and unscheduled visits. As Dr. Renelier points out, “the CPTS wishes to attract and encourage the establishment of new doctors in the territories. You should know that the CPTS is active in 48 municipalities in South Vienna and if it recently had 26 doctors, it currently only has 22 and only 19 are expected in 2025…” A positive point: appointments could be made after discussions with the nursing staff.
