The deployment of prevention appointments places nurses at the heart of health promotion. These key assessments, fully covered for patients, make it possible to identify and reduce risks while strengthening prevention.

The deployment of prevention appointments, included in the decree of May 28, 2024, marks a significant turning point in the promotion of public health. Liberal nurses, alongside doctors, midwives and pharmacists, can now carry out these assessments, intended to support patients in risk prevention and the adoption of healthy lifestyle habits.

The objective of this system is clear: to enable the early identification of risk factors for chronic diseases and other preventable pathologies, while encouraging patients to become actors in their own health. To do this, the prevention assessments take place in three stages: first, a self-questionnaire to identify risks completed by the patient; then, the joint prioritization of prevention topics between the patient and the nurse; finally, the development of a personalized prevention plan (PPP) which details the objectives and strategies to reduce the identified risks.

These meetings target four key age groups: 18-25 years, 45-50 years, 60-65 years and 70-75 years, thus allowing appropriate monitoring throughout adult life.

In practice, consultations last 30 to 45 minutes and address various aspects such as medical history, lifestyle, chronic disease prevention and mental and social well-being.

100% covered by Health Insurance, appointments can only be billed once per person and per age group with the RDI code. These assessments are paid 30 euros in mainland and 31.50 euros in the overseas territories. For once, the remuneration is the same for all the workers, whether they are doctors, midwives, pharmacists or nurses.

The privileged relationship of trust that IDELs maintain with their patients is an undeniable asset for the success of this action. But it is also a challenge. By taking advantage of this system, the IDELs make their role in prevention visible and open the way to the development of new public health missions, therefore to the recognition of the profession.
