Lars Fruergaard Jørgensen was born on November 29, 1966 in Denmark. He grew up in a small town near Viborg, in rural Jutland. He worked on the family farm before studying finance and business administration at Aarhus University. Aarhus is the second largest Danish university, behind Copenhagen.
In 1991, he obtained a master’s degree in finance and business administration. It was that same year that he joined the Novo Nordisk Group as a healthcare and planning economist.
Novo Nordisk is a major Danish pharmaceutical company (ranked in 2014, in 16th place among the “largest pharmaceutical companies in the world in terms of turnover”), leader in treatments against diabetes, hemostasis, the hormone growth and hormonal treatments.
Lars Fruergaard Jørgensen led a career there marked by regular and exemplary development, moving over the years to the Netherlands, the United States, then Japan.
Returning to Denmark in 2004, he was appointed Senior Vice President of IT and Business Development. In January 2013, he was named executive vice president, chief information officer, responsible for information technology, quality and corporate development. In November 2014, he took on the responsibilities of Corporate People & Organization and Business Assurance as well as chief of staff.
In September 2016, Lars Fruergaard Jørgensen was chosen by the President in office for 16 years, Lars Rebien Sorensen to replace him. He was thus appointed Chairman of the Group in January 2017.
In addition to this successful career of more than twenty-five years within Novo Nordisk, Lars Fruergaard Jørgensen has also been a member of several prestigious company boards in the pharmaceutical field, such as Innate Pharma in France, Harno Invest, NNIT and NNE Pharmaplan, of which he is also president.
Finally, Lars Fruergaard Jørgensen is vice-chairman of the supervisory board and member of the nomination committee of Carlsberg. This Danish brewing company, headquartered in Valby, Denmark, is the fourth largest brewer in the world and is present in nearly 140 countries.
Very modest and adept at humor, Lars Fruergaard Jørgensen is recognized in the business world for his great intelligence. He was chosen by Lars Rebien Sorensen, his predecessor at the head of Novo Nordisk A/S, for the “very strong values that characterize him”.
