A conference provided an opportunity to discuss the envisaged directions.

Since 2013, the Pays Cœur d’Hérault has had a local health contract signed with the Regional Health Agency. Its aim is to identify the weak points in local healthcare provision and to remedy them by implementing various actions, not necessarily strictly medical but also social.

Four priority axes for actions

With the second contract coming to an end, the Pays du Cœur d’Hérault health commission is currently finalizing the next one which will cover the period 2024-2029.

Big news for this one, the desire of the commission to sign not only with the ARS but also with other institutions. The Montpellier University Hospital and Health Insurance have already responded favorably, the departmental council has not yet given its response. To present the new objectives to the territory’s health stakeholders, the commission organized a conference on Thursday May 30 in Villeneuvette, preceded by a forum of the territory’s health and social stakeholders.

The conference was chaired for the occasion by Jean-François Soto, mayor of Gignac and president of the Pays Cœur d’Hérault development union, who took the opportunity to point out that there was no opposition between the three intercommunalities of the Heart of Hérault and called for the merger of these in order, with a territory of 85,000 inhabitants, to have more influence over Montpellier. Under the responsibility of Doctor Guy Lassalvy, president of the commission, the various managers presented the four priority areas of the new contract: primary care which aims to install new health professionals, in particular general practitioners, to facilitate the approach of going towards specialists or even prevention through cancer screening, the “Mental Health” axis with a shared observation of being a poor relation of French medicine when there are a lot of things to do.

The “Healthy Journey” aims to carry out sexual health education operations, others for young people and families, and to support initiatives such as those of the Maison Sport Santé de Lodève whose work has been unanimously praised . Finally, the “Environmental Health” axis envisages, among other things, awareness-raising actions on radon, pesticides and encouraging environmentally friendly town planning (UFS). The 2024-2029 local health contract will be officially signed on July 5.
