Walid Regragui plans to meet Sofiane Diop, striker of the French club OGC Nice, as part of his current tour in Europe and certain Arab countries to exchange with several Moroccan players for the upcoming national team events.
According to a source close to the player cited by Hesport, Sofiane Diop is among the players Regragui plans to meet, particularly after his recent impressive performances with Nice. He shone in the last match against Strasbourg in Ligue 1, which earned him a place in the team of the day.
The objective of this meeting is to reiterate to Diop that he is an integral part of the future project of the national team and that his performances are closely monitored. His chances of joining the Atlas Lions again remain intact, provided he maintains his level.
Regragui is also expected to meet Ayoub Bouaddi, Lille’s promising young midfielder, who represents one of the current priorities of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation. Bouaddi has stood out despite his young age, making him an interesting target to strengthen the national team.
Sofiane Diop, aged 23, of a Moroccan mother and a Senegalese father, chose to represent Morocco instead of France or Senegal. Regragui had already called him up during a previous training session last November, for the match against Tanzania in qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, but Diop remained on the bench.
Trained at Stade Rennais with the under-19s, Sofiane Diop then went through Monaco and Sochaux before joining OGC Nice, with whom he is under contract until the summer of 2027.
Note that Walid Regragui recently met Moroccan internationals Yassine Bounou, goalkeeper of Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia, and Romain Saïss, defender of Al Sadd in Qatar, during their clash in the Asian Champions League in Doha.
