Restorative dermopigmentation: the final step in physical reconstruction after breast cancer

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women. In Canada alone, it is estimated that 30,500 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year, which is staggering!

Although breast cancer has a high survival rate, it can leave psychological and physical after-effects in patients. Some women choose 3D breast areola restorative dermopigmentation to regain an aspect of their femininity after undergoing a mastectomy or reconstructive surgery (breast reconstruction).

To discuss it and learn more, we went to meet Geneviève Grenier, founder of Bar à Beauté, expert in permanent makeup, including restorative dermopigmentation.

Geneviève Grenier, founder of Bar à Beauté, expert in permanent makeup and restorative dermopigmentation.

Geneviève, can you explain to us a little about the process of restorative dermopigmentation of the breast areola in 3D?

“Of course! My work consists of tattooing the areolas and nipples as symmetrically as possible, trompe l’oeil, using a 3D effect, playing with light and shadow. I take care to symmetrize the areola and her nipple by harmonizing the diameter and color while respecting the client’s desires as well as her breast morphology. In my opinion, it is the final stage of physical reconstruction after breast cancer and certainly one of the most important.”

One of Geneviève’s magnificent creations.

Since she was very little, Geneviève Grenier, founder of Bar à Beauté, has loved taking care of others and being in contact with people. She, who loved to accompany her mother to care for a very sick neighbor, still carries this caring desire. An intensive care nurse, she decided after a few years to choose her family life and put an end to the overloaded days of the hospital environment.

Engaged in the medical-aesthetic field, she found a job that combines her passions: aesthetics and her concern for the well-being of others. When she was offered the opportunity to take training in permanent makeup, she felt complete because she was passionate about drawing and art!

“The important thing, for me, is to give back to women who want it, an essential aspect of their femininity. I hope, in my own way, to help them reaffirm their beauty and bring their healing process to the forefront. This is an important step for many breast cancer survivors to reconnect with their bodies” – Geneviève Grenier

The owner of the Beauty Bar no longer counts her hours of training since she has loved perfecting her art for 10 years. Eyebrows, lips, eyes, what she loves is seeing her clients regain self-confidence!

What led you to perfect your skills in 3D tattooing of breast areolas?

It is the desire to help and support women who have or have had cancer. It ties in with my passion for ultra-realistic drawing, as I’ve been doing portraits since I was 12! It was natural to transfer my knowledge of drawing to the level of permanent tattooing.

A creation by Geneviève.

In addition, I like to create human contact, I have a lot of empathy and a good listener. It’s important for me to put the person at ease, which is not always easy when our body has experienced trauma and difficulties.

What are the fears of clients who come to consult you?

The fears are mainly at the level of the result, but when they consult my site or the social networks of the Beauty Bar, they can see the result and the realism of the permanent makeup that I create.

In total, the work is done in one session with an additional appointment for touch-ups. Clients who have overcome cancer can also call on me for my eyebrow expertise since the majority of women with cancer have lost their entire eyebrows or, at least, their eyebrows are thinner, less full as a result. of their treatments. I can draw eyebrows hair by hair or with a powdered effect. If the client also wants to recreate the eyelash look by drawing a thin line of eyeliner on the eyelid, I am here for her.

A fine line of eyeliner on the eyelid.

How does the first consultation take place?

I go at the client’s pace. If she wants to meet me for the first time after receiving medical approval, to discuss her needs, or if she immediately wants a sketch, or a proposal, I am there! There is no such customer. However, the client must be between 12 and 18 months post-reconstructive surgery, in order to avoid complications. If she no longer has any hair, she can bring photos taken before the illness.

Eyebrow makeup.

For restorative dermopigmentation or eyebrows, I of course have to take several measures to make it as symmetrical and harmonious as possible. Then, we begin! For areolas, the result lasts 2 to 5 years and 1 to 5 years for eyebrows, depending on your skin type. Afterwards, we make touch-ups!

Can women get breast tattoos for reasons other than cancer?

Indeed, some consult me to camouflage postoperative scars after breast reduction or augmentation. Some wish to correct an asymmetry of the areolas or recolor them following aging or childbirth. Restorative dermopigmentation brings the client enormous satisfaction thanks to the astonishing and above all very natural result. It’s extremely rewarding!”

Whether for one or other of these reasons, dear readers, do not hesitate to request a free consultation from Geneviève du Bar à Beauté. She will be able to meet your expectations. Restorative dermopigmentation can greatly help improve your body perception and improve your self-esteem, in a climate of gentleness and kindness.
