Tonkpi records 28 confirmed positive cases of measles

The health authorities of Man revealed, Friday October 18, 2024, 28 confirmed positive cases of measles out of the 197 suspects identified in the Tonkpi region since January 2024, during an information and awareness meeting on the national campaign against measles. measles and rubella carried out throughout the country.

“For this year 2024, since January, there have been 197 suspected cases of measles in our department (…). But the problem is that out of the 197 cases, there are 28 cases whose results came back positive,” declared Unicef ​​“zero dose” consultant in Tonkpi, Moussa Mamadou.

“To say that measles is here,” Mr. Moussa insisted on the necessity of the current vaccination campaign.

He added that several confirmed cases had not been vaccinated, which highlights an urgent need to strengthen vaccination efforts, the Unicef ​​official stressed, adding that the opportunity is given for these children to be vaccinated.

The measles and rubella campaign runs from October 18 to 24, 2024 and aims to vaccinate all children aged nine months to five years, regardless of their vaccination status.

Consultant Moussa Mamadou invited the entire population to support the campaign in order to guarantee the protection of children and curb the spread of measles in Tonkpi. “Everyone must be able to support this campaign so that we can eradicate measles from our department,” he recommended.
