Workshops and conferences around Alzheimer’s disease: two national figures go to Carcassonne to present their studies

On the occasion of the two days dedicated to Alzheimer’s disease by the eponymous association Alzheimer, another look, in , doctors Gaëlle Marie-Bailleul and Véronique Lefebvre Des Noëlles, known nationally as specialists, agreed to confide in the reasons for their presence.

“With these days, we try to highlight the possibilities, to provide another discourse on the disease.” Mariane Taillandier, president of the Alzheimer’s association, another look, returns this year, on October 18 and 19, to organize events a few weeks after World Day (September 21). On this occasion, two nationally known doctors, Gaëlle Marie-Bailleul and Véronique Lefebvre Des Noëttes speak. They agreed to talk about the reasons for their coming to Aude land.

The first, a psychogeriatrician, is also a referring doctor and coordinator of the Henri-Emmanuelli Landes village in . For the second time, she went to Carcassonne to discuss the progress of the research: “We now have four years of hindsight on this prototype. The idea for this edition consists of bringing our practical experiences, with some results in progress, mainly focused on experimentation. We cannot reveal everything. I will present in particular the way whose 120 villagers live together, in inclusiveness.”

As a reminder, the medical-social establishment is spread out within a large 100-hectare park. Patients who are welcomed are “until the end of life”formulated Gaëlle Marie-Bailleul. A quarter are ill early (diagnosed before the age of 60). If the average age is estimated at 77 years, we find villagers between 35 and 104 years old. “The end of the experiment is scheduled for 2026, informed the psychogeriatrician. Extending it will depend on the results of the research. Which is focused on quality of life. Otherwise, we are considering creating a new structure.”

Véronique Lefebvre Des Noëttes is a psychiatrist for the elderly and also a doctor of practical philosophy. For her part, this is the third time she has visited the prefectural city. This year, she intends to focus on the role of stress in neurodegenerative disorders: “This reaction annihilates the structure of memory excessively. This year, through my conference, the objective is to understand it. Faced with those present, I seek to explain that it is better to favor appeasement without having use of medication.”
