The third most common cancer, lung cancer is the most fatal. It kills thousands of people. This lung disease is wreaking havoc. And for good reason. When symptoms appear, it is often already too late, the disease has already taken hold. Only 20% of patients survive. In the Paca region, the most smoking region in France, nearly 3,500 new cases of lung cancer are diagnosed each year.
To try to cope, protocols are put in place. In its Cancer 2022-2025 roadmap, the Regional Health Agency (ARS) placed emphasis on those with poor prognoses.
Shortened deadlines
Thus the Aix-Pertuis intercommunal hospital center (Chiap) and five other establishments in the Paca region were selected to be audited for one year. The ultimate objective is to label them as remarkable sectors in the treatment of lung cancer. This recognition will be a guarantee for patients of rapid diagnosis and treatment.
For the past month, the pulmonology and thoracic surgery medical teams have been working hand in hand to bring this project to fruition.
So the person worried about their health with a suspicion of lung cancer will not wait more than a week to obtain a first consultation appointment.
