Veterinary drugs: BIOPHARMA signs a success during the 1era FAO global conference on animal health innovation, reference centers and vaccines with the development of the first foot-and-mouth disease vaccine in East Africa.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) organized its first Global Conference on Animal Health Innovation, Reference Centers and Vaccines from September 23-25, 2024 in Rome, Italy, Ont. took part in the conference, representatives of member countries, reference centers, vaccine producers, researchers and development partners.

The event is part of FAO’s strategic framework, contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Highlighting FAO’s role in the fight against animal and zoonotic diseases, this event addresses the priorities and challenges linked to animal health and the “One Health” approach. Its objectives are to identify the priorities of member countries, explore collaborative solutions, establish a collaboration platform to promote innovation and sustainability in the livestock sector, as well as explore innovative approaches to improve accessibility to veterinary vaccines.

The conference represented a unique opportunity to bring together experts and decision-makers to discuss innovative solutions to strengthen animal health, prevent disease outbreaks and ensure sustainable breeding practices, while protecting human health and food safety .

Focused on improving animal health to transform livestock systems towards sustainability, the conference theme highlights the importance of a systems approach to improving animal health, integrating environmental, economic and social perspectives.

BIOPHARMA’s participation was marked by its contribution to the panel of the side event entitled “Ensuring the quality of vaccines and strengthening farmers’ confidence to mitigate the impact of animal diseases”.

In addition, BIOPHARMA was in the spotlight during an event organized by the Global Alliance for Veterinary Medicines – GALVmed, marked by the official announcement of the first vaccine to qualify for the “AgResults Foot-and-MouthDisease” project. Challenge Project” against foot and mouth disease targeting the East African Community (EAC). This is the “IMMUNFATPLUS” vaccine with 04 serotypes (A, O, SAT1 and SAT2) developed and registered by BIOPHARMA in the countries of this region of Africa and intended for the prevention of foot-and-mouth disease. A four-year framework contract was signed on this occasion between BIOPHARMA and this international organization.
