The head of the Kwilu Provincial Health Division, Dr. Jean-Paul Matela, recommended, Monday, October 7, that women respect exclusive breastfeeding of their child until the age of 6 months.
He made the recommendation during the celebration of World Breastfeeding Week in the town of Bandundu (Kwilu):
« Breast milk has several qualities and the content is more complete which does not require the addition of another food before the first six months of the child’s life. We will start adding complementary foods to the child at six months and then continued breastfeeding until the age of two or more. ».
Dr Jean Paul Matela also made it known that breast milk is an ideal and clean food for the baby and 100% satisfies all its energy needs until the age of six months.
During these meetings, several modules were presented by PRONANUT/Kwilu experts, namely: breastfeeding and its advantages, the first 1000 days of the child’s life or window of opportunity, the Congolese code of marketing of breast milk substitute and others.
The ceremony marking this day was organized by the Provincial Health Division (DPS) through the National Nutrition Program, PRONANUT, with financial support from UNICEF.
