Screening for colorectal cancer is now accessible everywhere on the North Shore

Screening will soon be possible on site at Carrefour La Baie, which has become a service point in Sept-Îles of the CISSS Côte-Nord.

The CISSS de la Côte-Nord announces that screening for colorectal cancer is now accessible everywhere on the Côte-Nord. The examination will be carried out on site in Baie-Comeau as well as Sept-Îles and will operate via teleconsultation elsewhere in the territory.

Screening is offered at the Center Laflèche service point in Baie-Comeau. Eligible people must first make an appointment on Clic Santé or by calling 1 844 407-0967. In Sept-Îles, the service will be offered in the coming weeks at Carrefour La Baie. Until then, people in Sept-Îles and the surrounding areas can benefit from teleconsultation.

Teleconsultation

By making an appointment, the user will have the choice between a teleconsultation by telephone or video call (Teams). During the consultation, a nurse will analyze whether he is eligible for screening. If so, two types of screening will be suggested: a fecal occult blood immunochemical test (iFOBT) for average-risk cases or a colonoscopy for higher-risk cases.

Screening for colorectal cancer is recommended for everyone aged 50 to 74. People without symptoms under the age of 50 with a family history are also invited to be screened.
