More than 500 people run to raise awareness against breast cancer in Déols

Déols changes color in October and becomes pink for a third edition. Since this Sunday, September 29 and for the entire month of October, a health village has been set up in the abbey meadow. Organized with the League against Cancer, 14 associations set up their stand there to “talk about illness“, explains Delphine Geneste, mayor of Déols. “Before illness, on prevention and screening, during illness and also after illness with return to work.” It is the leading cause of cancer death among women in 2023 and affects an average of 60,000 people per year.

The start of a month of mobilization

The village was designed as a journey into care“, explains François Christian, president of the Indre departmental committee of the League against Cancer and head of the oncology department of the Châteauroux hospital department. For him, raising awareness of breast cancer is essential to treat at the first signs, thanks to self-examination procedures and tests carried out in the regional cancer screening coordination centers He explains: “It is a disease that can affect women of any age but is particularly present in those aged 50-74. One in 8 women will face breast cancer during their lifetime. Overall, the numbers have been increasing over the last ten years but we are managing to cure more and more cases.“. About 3% of men can be affected by this same cancer.

300 walkers and 250 runners were present from 9 a.m. Among them, many have been affected, directly or indirectly, by breast cancer. This is the case of Milene: “I’m 33 years old, I didn’t feel particularly concerned until it happened to someone close to me. I told myself that it could also concern me, so I got tested.“Since Camille’s mother was affected by the disease, the 26-year-old young woman”encourages all young girls and women to do so. Still today, too many women, even elderly women, do not get tested“.

Déols en rose organizes several events throughout the month of October to continue raising awareness. The program can be found on this link.
