Descriptive text here

Since the start of 2024, 119 cases of leptospirosis have been reported on Island. Dr. Gérald Kierzek emphasizes that this figure is higher than in previous years. And he calls for vigilance.

Leptospirosis is transmitted through rodent urine. This bacteria spreads in river water. A simple cut or swimming in contaminated water can be enough to contract the disease, as detailed in Dr Gerald Kierzek.

In particular, it can be transmit directly, i.e. by bite or contact with an infected environment, or indirectly through activities such as freshwater swimming, fishing or boating. The bacteria then enter the body through wounds, skin or mucous membrane erosions, conjunctiva, or by inhalation of droplets.
