A “pediatric pathologies and pesticides” consultation open at the Amiens University Hospital

For several years, scientific research has looked at the links between exposure to pollutants and certain birth defects, certain cancers or even infertility problems. In 2021, France was the first country in the world to establish a compensation fund for pesticide victims.

Within the Amiens University Hospital, in the north, a first “Pediatric Pathologies and Pesticides” Consultation was opened in the fall of 2023 to examine these files. Its principle: to support parents of children – exposed to pesticides during pregnancy or at a young age – and suffering from leukemia, brain tumors or genital malformations. Since the opening of this consultation, around thirty patients have been seen. Sylvain Chamot, responsible for this consultation, explains it to Charlie Dupiot:

“The goal is that there are ultimately cases that are recognized and that behind this, this raises awareness of this little-known problem: pesticides can potentially promote the appearance of diseases in children. »
