On social networks, breakfast recipes based on bananas, plant-based milks and oatmeal abound. However, according to Daryl Gioffre, nutritionist doctor, interviewed by the English press, banana would not be the best fruit to eat in the morning. “They will give you a quick boost, but you will quickly be tired and feel hungry in the morning” explains the specialist.

However, bananas have many health benefits. It helps protect the heart thanks to its richness in potassium, but also regulates cholesterol levels thanks to its resistant starches. It also helps you get to sleep thanks to the tryptophan it contains. Despite all these benefits, Doctor Gioffre does not recommend it for breakfast. Indeed, the fruit would be too sweet and would tend to increase your blood sugar.

But if you want to continue eating bananas in the morning, you can! As long as you combine them with another food. The nutritionist advises opting for a food rich in healthy fats. In fact, these prevent blood sugar peaks, and therefore slumps and small hunger pangs in the morning. Several choices are then available to you: olives, eggs, seeds, nuts or avocados. “Because bananas are acidic, you will need to neutralize the acid to benefit from the benefits of potassium, fiber and magnesium,” explains the specialist.

To start the day off right, it is important to have a good breakfast. Ideally, this consists of:

  • From a Source of protein: ideally eggs. They help you feel fuller for longer (and reduce cravings in the morning);

  • Good fats: almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts… Fatty acids, in particular omega-3 and omega-9, are essential for the proper functioning of our body;

  • From a fruit: avoid juice and opt for a whole fruit. This allows you to benefit from all the fibers and reduce the assimilation of the sugars contained in the fruit;

  • Green tea: to hydrate while benefiting from numerous antioxidants;
    Quality carbohydrates: forget white or sandwich bread and instead choose sourdough bread made from wholemeal or semi-wholemeal flour.

This breakfast should allow you to stock up on energy and vitamins and keep you feeling hungry until lunch.
