Followed by specific training

To prescribe or administer vaccines, the community pharmacist (or working in a mutual or mining emergency pharmacy) must have completed specific training:

  • teaching relating to the administration and prescription of vaccines as part of initial training,
  • or training delivered by a training organization respecting the educational objectives set by ministerial decree.

To note : the community pharmacist already trained in the administration of vaccines is exempt from following this part of the training. On the other hand, he must follow that relating to prescription, if he wishes to carry out this activity.

The vaccines concerned

The pharmacist is authorized to:

  • prescribe all vaccines mentioned in the vaccination schedule in force to persons aged eleven and over according to the recommendations of this schedule, with the exception of live attenuated vaccines in immunocompromised persons;
  • administer all vaccines mentioned in the current vaccination schedule to people aged eleven and over according to the recommendations in this schedule;
  • prescribe and administer seasonal flu vaccines to people aged eleven and over, whether or not targeted by vaccination recommendations.

To note : vaccination of travelers (prescription and administration) does not fall within the scope of pharmacists.

The technical conditions to be respected

According to the Order of August 8, 2023 establishing the specifications relating to the technical conditions to be respected to carry out the vaccination activity, the pharmacist must have:

  • of suitable premisesincluding a confidential space to conduct the preliminary interview, accessible from the customer area, without possible access to medications;
  • ofadapted equipment comprising a table or desk, a chair or an armchair to seat the person for the injection;
  • of a water point for washing hands or hydro-alcoholic solution;
  • of a refrigerated enclosure with temperature recording and monitoring for vaccine storage;
  • of equipment needed for injection of the vaccine and the elimination of DASRI produced in this context;
  • of a first emergency kit ;
  • of hardware necessary for the traceability of vaccinations carried out as well as access to dematerialized document sharing and storage tools, in particular the DP, the DMP and the digital health space.

A declaration of activity to the Order

The community pharmacist personally declares his activity of prescribing and/or administering vaccines, by any means giving a certain date on receipt of the declaration, to the competent authority of the council of the National Order of Pharmacists whose it belongs.

The declaration is made on the e-POP platform > My procedures > Administrative > Submit my declaration relating to vaccination, specifying the activity (administration and/or prescription), the training followed and attaching the required training certificates.

Students in the 3rd cycle of pharmaceutical studies do not declare this activity to the Order. They can administer vaccines as part of their internship, under the supervision of the internship supervisor or as part of a replacement provided they have followed the theoretical and practical lessons relating to vaccination during their initial training or training. specific training in vaccination against Covid-19.
