20% of children and 30% of adults are affected by seasonal allergic rhinitis, more commonly called hay fever.

The most common symptoms are sneezing, stuffy or runny nose, red eyes, or even coughing.

Several grandmother’s tips, such as lavender inhalation, relieve the pain caused by this allergy.

The buds are just starting to appear and it’s time to get out the tissues! If you start to sneeze, your eyes turn red and your nose starts to sting or even runny, it is probably linked to pollen circulating in the air. According to the National Health Safety Agency (2023), 20% of children under the age of nine are affected by seasonal allergic rhinitis, compared to 30% of adults. By 2050, 50% of the French population could be affected by pollen allergies. It is therefore better to find out now about grandmother’s tips to relieve its effects.

A lavender inhalation

No need for a herbalist when you have a grandmother! Thanks to their long-term apprenticeship at the school of life, they always have good tips for relieving everyday ailments. To decongest the nasal passages, they recommend in particular doing an inhalation with lavender. The best is to take it fresh or in essential oil and let it infuse in boiling water. You can then inhale the preparation for a few minutes with a cloth over your head so that the vapors are preserved.

Nettle tea

In the grandmother’s tip section, we also call nettle herbal tea. Although this plant is known to be stinging, it also acts as an antihistamine. In the form of herbal tea or in capsules to swallow, nettle will help you combat the effects of allergies. Enough to restore the image of this plant, which is often feared during a walk in the forest!

Onion juice

Although it may not be very appetizing, onion juice can help you fight spring allergies. Rich in vitamin C, it also acts as a natural antihistamine and can really calm hay fever. It is best to choose red and let a few slices of onion infuse in mineral water for eight to twelve hours, before drinking the preparation. This grandmother’s remedy can be kept refrigerated for up to four days.
