“A small victory”, for the AESH, who obtain the suspension of the revision of their contracts

IIt was cold, but they were there. The Landes Accompanying Students with Disabilities (AESH) met on Thursday January 16, 2025, in front of the services of the Departmental Services of National Education of Landes (DSDEN 40), in Mont-de-Marsan.

They came together to denounce the precariousness and invisibility of their profession, but another reason was added to their mobilization in the Landes. This involves the announcement, a few days before the Christmas holidays, to around ten of them, that their contract would be reduced by 10% of working time, going from 70% to 60%. This also implies a 10 point reduction in their salary, with no room for negotiation. The DSDEN des Landes has been working since the fall to harmonize contracts, to bring them into compliance with the latest management framework established in June 2019.

“If we want a school for all, the AESH are necessary,” recalls Cathy Vigneau-Laffargue, departmental secretary of the SNUipp-FSU, who was present at the demonstration and during the meeting which followed between the services of the National Education and a delegation.

A file to follow

“We have made progress,” notes Cathy Vigneau-Laffargue. The downward revision of all contracts concerned is suspended until the end of the school year. People are being contacted so that they do not sign the amendment, or so that it is canceled. DSDEN 40 is turning towards the rectorate. »

“It’s a small victory,” she says, without letting down her guard. The AESH mobilized a lot on December 5 and yesterday (January 16, Editor's note), it is thanks to them that this progress was obtained, the union is only supporting them. »

Another point of vigilance: a week of primary school corresponds to twenty-four hours of class, however, by lowering the working time of AESH to 60%, this only corresponds to 23:30 hours. There would therefore be a shortage of 30 minutes accompaniment. The DSDEN 40 will see in other departments how this is applied, in order to find a solution.

The Department gets involved

Following the article concerning the AESH published in our edition of Wednesday January 15, the president of the Departmental Council of Landes, Xavier Fortinon, sent a letter to the address of the secretary general of the DSDEN of Landes, Nicolas Sanchez, who has been acting since the departure of academic director Bruno Brevet on January 13.
“The elements presented seem to question the information processes for the personnel concerned whose national status remains below the stakes,” notes Xavier Fortinon. He also asks the Secretary General to send him information concerning this decision, and in particular “to specify whether, for the territories concerned, the entirety of students' class time is covered by the support of an AESH”.
