Tiger Woods quickly shook off the rust with his son Charlie during the first round of the PNC Championship, as the duo posted a card of 59 (-13) to take control of the tournament tied with the duo Langers and Singhs.
In “Vegas” format, the Woods duo recorded 13 birdies during their day, including five in a row on the back nine at the Ritz Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, Florida.
To make it even more special for the Woods family, it was Tiger's daughter, Sam, who acted as a caddy for her father.
“We're cheering each other on so much for each of us to get the shot we want,” Woods said after the round.
Coming out of his sixth back intervention, Woods seemed to launch with ease and, if his partner was in difficulty, he systematically hit the shot which allowed him to maintain the rhythm of his duo. Charlie, 15, made several big putts while placing long tee shots into the fairway throughout the day.
“I’m a big fan,” Tiger said.
Asked what he should do on Sunday, Charlie replied: “Just have fun. I feel like that's where I struggled: being too focused on the game. You just have to have fun and have confidence. »
The PNC is an unofficial event played in teams. Woods is seeking his first victory in any competition since the Zozo Championship in fall 2019, the 82nd title of his PGA Tour career.
