By being named player of the year for the third time in a row, Scottie Scheffler equals a certain Tiger Woods. The two-time Masters winner received the prize during a charity event at a PGA Tour store in Texas.

Scottie Scheffler won his third “Jack Nicklaus” trophy in a row on Tuesday. It rewards the player considered by his peers to be the player of the year PGA Tour.

The only other player to have received this award three consecutive times is Tiger Woods. And the comparison does not stop there since Scheffler's season includes seven official victories, to which must be added a gold medal at the 2024 Olympic Games and success in the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas this Sunday.

Few players of the modern era, apart from Woods (9 successes in 2000, 8 in 2006, 7 in 2007) and Vijay Singh (9 successes in 2004), have accumulated as many titles over a calendar year.

Scheffler surprised

The only surprise of this award is the way in which the PGA Tour presented the “Jack Nicklaus Award” to world number 1. It was during a charity event attended by Scheffler. He was at a PGA Tour store in Plano, Texas, and didn't expect to be awarded the small statuette there.

For the record, Scheffler, 28, was chosen almost unanimously by his peers, receiving 91% of the votes ahead of Xander Schauffeletwice winner of Majors in 2024 (PGA Championship et The Open), et Rory McIlroywho also won the Jack Nicklaus Award three times but not in a row.
