There was still one place left to play the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas next week, an invitational tournament that he organizes himself and to which, for the first time in its history, a Frenchman is invited, but Tiger Woods will ultimately not be at departure as many hoped.

The Tiger no longer roars. It's been more than 5 months since Tiger Woods did not play competitively again.

After the 2nd round of The Open in Troon (79/77), the Tiger had nevertheless announced that it had set itself the objective of being back on its feet for the Hero World Challengethe end-of-year competition which he hosts and which brings together, in Albany (Bahamas), barely 18 hand-picked players!

But a post on his social networks raised the hopes of his supporters of finding him at the start of a competition before 2025.

“I'm disappointed I won't be able to compete in this year's Hero World Challenge, but I'm still looking forward to hosting the tournament and spending the week with @HeroMotoCorp,” posted the 15-time major winner on X.

Two more major winners

He took the opportunity to reveal the names of the players who will complete the field at the last minute. Jason Day, Justin Thomasas well as Nick Dunlapjoin the list published a few weeks ago and on which appears Matthew Pavon !

As a reminder, Woods, who will turn 49 in a month, underwent micro-decompression surgery on his lumbar spine in September. This was the former world number 1's sixth back operation in 10 years.

This operation went well if we are to believe its press release: “The surgery went well and I hope it will help relieve the back spasms and pain I have been experiencing for most of the 2024 season. I can't wait to begin rehabilitation and prepare to return to normal activities, included. »

In his post today, Tiger does not specify when he will be able to make his return. Will you see him at the start of the PNC Championship with his son Charlie this year? Nothing is less certain!
