POLITICS – Every day brings its new rumor. Since the results of the legislative elections, and while no absolute majority exists in the National Assembly, the race for Matignon is not short of competitors. From Xavier Bertrand to Lucie Castets, including Gérard Larcher and Jean-Louis Borloo, many names are circulating, but one of them comes up regularly.

It is indeed that of the former socialist Prime Minister Bernard Cazeneuve, who seems to be settling in for good. A profile that corresponds to the ” portrait-robot ” from the head of government expected in the current situation, according to the president of the MoDem François Bayrou or the former Minister of Education Jean-Michel Blanquer.

An embarrassing hypothesis on the left

Yet on the left, and in Bernard Cazeneuve’s political family, this perspective divides… and embarrasses. Carole Delga, president of the Occitanie region who is also close to the former socialist sees him as a man ” able to lead left-wing policies and bring people together “, as she assured this Thursday, August 29 on TF1.

However, those who work for the unity of the left within the New Popular Front do not intend to abandon their candidate, Lucie Castets. The national secretary of the Ecologists Marine Tondelier described Bernard Cazeneuve this Thursday as someone who only embodies ” part of a New Popular Front party.

On the Socialist Party side, the leadership and the deputies are unanimous: in the event of the appointment of a Prime Minister who would continue Macron’s policy, the government would be immediately censured. And with Bernard Cazeneuve at Matignon? The Socialists, already plagued by numerous divisions, do not seem aligned on the strategy to follow.
