More than a year after his last selection, Christopher Nkunku presented himself at a press conference this Tuesday. The opportunity to take stock of your ambitions in the national team.

An obviously important joy. Since June 19, 2023, and a match against Greece won by the Blues as part of qualifying for Euro 2024, Christopher Nkunku had no longer attended the national team. So, he confided his general happiness this Tuesday, before the oppositions against Israel then Greece in the League of Nations. “I am very happy to return to the French team after more than a year of absence, Antoine Griezmann left an immense legacy in the French team. He marked a generation of football. I am not trying to replace him, I just want to make my contribution, we have different characteristics,” he warned on Tuesday.

“I have come back from a long, long way away,” confides a Nkunku who wants to stay with the Blues

Not a starter at Chelsea, he highlighted his strong desire to perform well after going through “difficult stages”, due to repeated injuries. “It was the first time I was injured for so long. These are adventures that make you stronger. I learned to know my body, my patience, and my resilience. I am psychologically stronger,” confided the one who was marked by missing the last World Cup. “The hardest time was missing the World Cup,” said Nkunku, who kept repeating that he had been absent for a year.

Slightly avoiding the subject of captaincy and recalling that “the captain is Kylian”, Nkunku affirmed his desire to stay in the selection for the long term, a rarity for him. “I came back in blue each time. The important thing now is to stay there and perform. Today, I am reassured. I have come from a long, long way away. The injuries are behind me. The goal, it’s about staying healthy,” he noted. As for a possible return to the shoes of a holder, he passed this responsibility on to his coach, aware of his reality. “All the players want to start matches. I don’t keep a low profile because I’m hungry to play and show what I’m capable of.”
